In AD 79 Mount Vesuvius erupted and destroyed the Roman cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum.
Andrew Wallace-Hadrill, formerly the Director of the British School at Rome and now Master of Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge, discusses his recent publication which gives a definitive overview of what we know and understand about Herculaneum, of what is still unknown and mysterious, and of the potential for future discoveries in both archaeological and political contexts.
Herculaneum: Past and Future is published in association with the Packard Humanities Institute.
